Nature and gardens
|
La Miniera lays on a wide terrace above the Dora Baltea Valley in Piedmont's Canavese. This big property belonged to an
ancient iron's mine and its environment is rich in historical memories
from Romans to Industrial Revolution, passing through Middle Age. After the closing of the Miniera in 1964, the wilderness retook possession of this land on top of the red mineral debris.
The farm was born in 1991, when we discovered and immediately loved this wide abandoned land , that, among woods and brambles, kept traces of a great past. After years of hard work and cleaning, we created
gardens, small
vegetable and fruit orchards living next to wild nature and now in harmony with the woody landscape.
Now we cultivate many kinds of
berries, our orchards give fresh vegetables all over the year, our woods and meadows give many kinds of wild
mushrooms (another of my passions), pollen and nectar for our bees, with a lot of flowers everywhere. Every plant
has been planted in holes made in the mineral debris with surprising success! We
have a big collection of succulents too. Come and spend some time listening to the sounds of nature: the flow of cascading waters, the pecking of the
woodpecker, the laughter of the jays and the nocturnal song of the
owls...( we have a collection of owls, made in many different materials) |
